CAPPADOCIA STEP BY STEP



 

Day 1: Home - Ankara

Arrival in İstanbul. You are greeted at the airport and transferred to your hotel by your tour director. (D) 

Day 2: Ankara – Ihlara Valley - Gelveri

Departure for Cappadocia. On the way to Nevşehir visiting the caravanserai of Ağızlkarahan, one of the best preserved in Anatolia. On the road to the Ihlara Valley, stopping at Selime Village for the Kale Manastırı Church. Visiting the Ağaçaltı, Sümbüllü and Yılanlı Churches in the Ihlara Gorge. Departure for Güzelyurt or Gelveri, a very interesting village with its troglodytic settlements and stone houses, followed by the Valley of Monasteries and Kilise Camii (the Church of St. Gregory of Nazianzus). Day 3: Göreme - Uçhisar

Visiting the Göreme Open-air Museum with its famous chapels and the Churches outside this monastic complex, like Tokalı, Meryem Ana, Theotokos and Kılıçlar. Following a splendid  trekking tour in the Valley of Görkündere, visiting El Nazar Church. Touring in Göreme (Avcılar) village, to see its Roman tomb, and its Churches. Ascending the fortress of Uçhisar to have a panoramic view of Cappadocia. (B, D)

Day 4: Ortahisar – Zelve - Avanos

Visiting Ortahisar, an old village up a dead end valley with its huge honeycombed cone fortress and the extraordinary Hallaç Monastery. Departure for Zelve. Exploring the triple valley, with its churches, rock-cut mosque and tunnel. Then visiting the pretty little town of Avanos, the center of tapestry and pottery with its inviting pottery shops, Özkonak, the least visited underground city, which is said to have housed 60.000 people once, and Belha Monastery. Day 5: Ürgüp – Sinassos - Soğanlı

Departure for Soğanlı. On the way visiting the Church of St. Basil (Aios Vasilios) and the stone houses in Mustafapaşa (Sinassos), with their secular frescoes, Archangel Monastery in Cemil, the Church of Forty Martyrs in Şahinefendi (Söviş). Arrival at the attractive Soğanlı Valley, visiting Yılanlı, Kubbeli, and Karabaş Churches. (B, D) 

Day 6: Kızılçukur – Güllüdere –Çavuşin – Tagar – Kayseri - Ürgüp

In the morning two hours trekking in Güllüdere and Kızılçukur valleys, beginning near Aktepe and ending in Çavuşin. Departure for Kayseri. Visiting the Citadel, the Huant Hatun Complex, the Döner Kumbet, the Archeological Museum and medreses in Kayseri. (B, D)

Day 7: Eski Gümüş – Niğde – Açıksaray – Gülşehir –Hacı Bektaş Veli - Ankara

Departure for Niğde. On the way visiting Eski Gümüş Monastery, the jewel of Cappadocia, with its secular frescoes depicting stories from Aesop. Visiting the Citadel, Alaeddin Mosque, the beautiful tomb of Hudavend Hatun in Niğde. On the way to Nevşehir visiting the astonishing underground city of Derinkuyu with its eight levels and the church of 19th century in Derinkuyu. Visiting Açık Saray (Open Palace) and Gülşehir on the way to Hacı Bektaş. Visiting the Museum of Hacı Bektaş Veli, the founder of Bektaşi dervishes sect. Departure for Ankara. Overnight in Ankara. Day 8: Ankara - Home

Transfer to the airport for return flight. (B)
