LIBRARIES OF ISTANBUL AND PUBLUCATION HISTORY



Day 1: Home - İstanbul

Arrival in İstanbul. Meet in the airport by the tour director of FEST TRAVEL and transfer to the hotel. Dinner and overnight in hotel. (D)

Day 2: İstanbul

Visiting, the 'Hippodrome', the scene of the chariot races and the center of Byzantine civic life; the 'Blue Mosque' (Sultan Ahmet Camii) famous for its blue tiles; the 'Basilica of Saint Sophia' (Ayasofya Müzesi), the 6th century church of divine wisdom, one of the greatest marvels of architecture of all times; the 'Topkapı Palace Museum', world famous imperial residence of Ottoman sultans for nearly 400 years with its superb and unrivalled porcelain collections, the Imperial Treasury and the library; the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts containing Turkish and Persian miniatures, Seljuk tiles, Koran and antique carpets. Attend an event with the librarians. (B, L)

Day 3: İstanbul

Visiting the library of the University of İstanbul; Beyazıt Government Library; stroll through the historical bouquiniste; a meeting with the authorities of major publishers and distributors. (B, L)

Day 4: İstanbul

Visiting the Kariye Museum (the Church of St. Savour in Chora) with its world famous frescoes and mosaics on a golden ground; the Süleyman Mosque (the mosque complex of Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent), a masterpiece of architecture that synthesis all the historical heritage symbolizing the Golden Age of the Ottoman Empire; the Süleymaniye Library and a lecture about the books; promenade in the Covered Bazaar, the historical shopping center with nearly 4000 shops and labyrinth alleys. Day 5: İstanbul

Visiting, the Archeological Museum which houses very rich collections of classical antiquity; the Museum of the Ancient Orient displaying antiquities from the Hittite, Assyrian, Babylonian and Sumerian civilizations; the Atatürk Library. Meeting with some authors and book critics. (B, L)

Day 6: İstanbul

Visiting, libraries belonging to foundations such as Köprülü and Atıf Efendi Library. In the afternoon visiting the magnificent Dolmabahçe Palace, the last residence of the Ottoman Sultans with its recently opened Harem, the secluded quarters of the wives and concubines of the Sultans.  Crossing the Asia via Bosphorus Bridge to have a panoramic view over the Colline of Çamlıca, and a tour in Üsküdar. Day 7: İstanbul

Old Spice Market (the Egyptian Bazaar).  Taking the private motorboat excursion along the European and Asian coasts of the Bosphorus for about 2 hours.  Examining the Bosphorus Kiosks and the bridges. Visiting the Rumelihisarı (European Fortress) one of the beautiful examples of military architecture. Lunch in a typical fish restaurant along the Bosphorus. Visiting the Bosphorus University Library. Rest of the day is in leisure. (B, L)

Day 8: İstanbul - Home

Transfer to the airport for return flight. (B)
