THE CHURCHES OF THE APOCALYPSE



Day 1: İstanbul 

Arrival in Istanbul. Transfer to the hotel. Dinner and overnight. (D)

Day 2: İstanbul - Çanakkale 

Departure by coach for Troy via the northern coast of Marmara and crossing over Dardanelles by ferryboat from Europe to Asia Minor. Visiting Troy, one of the most evocative sites of antiquity. Overnight in Çanakkale. (B,D)

Day 3: Çanakkale - Ayvalık 

Visiting Alexandria Troas, where St. Paul visited and Assos (Behramkale), where St. Paul met Luke and others after the 35 km walk from Alexandria Troas. Overnight in Ayvalık (B,D).

Day 4: Ayvalık - İzmir

Arrival in Bergama (Pergamum, Revelation 2: 12-17). Visiting the Asclepieum, the Acropolis with its magnificent monuments together with the Altar of Zeus ("Seat of Satan"), the church at the site of ancient Serapium, Red Court (Kızıl Avlu ), dedicated to St. John and the Archeological Museum. Departure for Akhisar, the site of ancient Thyatira (Revelation 2:18-29) and visiting the ruins of the church there. Departure for Izmir, ancient Smyrna (Revelation 2: 8-11) via Magnesia ad Spylum (possibility of visiting Muradlye Mosque). Visiting St. Policarp Church in Izmir Overnight in IZMIR (B,D).

Day 5: İzmir - Pamukkale 

Departure for Sardis, the capital of ancient kingdom of Lydia (Revelation 3: 1-6), where a Jewish synagogue of the 3rd century AD has been uncovered and partially restored. Visiting the church in Sardis, built on the foundations of the Temple of Artemis. On the way, visiting the ruins of the church in Alaşehir, ancient Philadelphia (Revelation 3: 7-13). Overnight  in Pamukkale (B,D).

Day 6: Pamukkale -Kuşadası 

Visiting Hierapolis with its Martyrium of St. Philip and Laodicea (Revelation 3: 14-22). Departure for Kuşadası. On the way visiting Aphrodisias, a place of artistic excellence and abundance of superb works of art and its Palace of Bishop. Overnight in Kuşadası (B,D). 

Day 7: Kuşadası - İzmir 

Visiting Ephesus (Revelation 1: 1-7), about which St. Paul said, "is there a greater city!" Visiting the Church of the Virgin Mary or the Double Church; the House of Virgin Mary, where Pope John Paul VI and Pope John II prayed homage and whose holiness has received official sanction by the Vatican; the Basilica of St. John and the Archeological Museum.  Arrival and overnight in Izmir (B,D).

Day 8: İzmir - Home

Transfer to the airport for the return flight, direct or via Istanbul (B).
